My dream was to live among a community that believes in "giving is receiving“

Hola People 

We ( me and my wife 54,51)came to live in Santa Teresa Costa Rica, a year and 3 months ago.

I chose to live in Costa Rica because I think it’s now the greenest country on this planet.

98.2 % of electricity is made by renewable sources 

They ban the use of single plastic use at the beach, they close all the zoo, they keep strict building rules against building on the beach, they make a big effort to recycle and the list goes on.

My choosing Santa Teresa was because of 365 days of surfing, in warm clean water, on the most beautiful beaches one can imagine.

Very soon after arriving, we found a strong community that act through Facebook pages such as “ Santa Teresa community “ y “What’s on Santa Teresa” 

On these pages, one can consult with others about all kinds of things, like a daily basis episode of life, like having a big snake in your garden, a hurt animal, or asking for an electrician, welder, or computer technician.

My dream was to live among a community that believes in "giving is receiving“. And here I found many people who live according to this.

I met Casa Pampa when I looked for a place to make a recycle center. They are a walking encyclopedia for Permaculture and all aspects of living in harmony with nature.

Santa Teresa Community Garden is a great project for the local school, like composting, and growing a variety of herbs, fruit, and vegetables, while teaching the kids about the subjects.

I went one morning to harvest the turmeric from the garden. It was a fun morning, meeting with great people, talking about life, and putting our hands on the ground digging for turmeric.

I hope a lot of people will continue to volunteer for Casa Pampa projects.

Hola Gente

Nosotros (mi esposa y yo 54,51) vinimos a vivir a Santa Teresa Costa Rica, hace un año y 3 meses.

Elegí vivir en Costa Rica porque creo que ahora es el país más verde de este planeta.

El 98,2% de la electricidad procede de fuentes renovables, prohíben el uso de plástico de un solo uso en la playa, cierran todo el zoológico, mantienen estrictas reglas de construcción contra la construcción en la playa. Hacen un gran esfuerzo por reciclar y la lista continúa.

Mi elección de Santa Teresa fue por 365 días de surf, en agua tibia y limpia, en las playas más hermosas que uno pueda imaginar.

Al poco tiempo de llegar, encontramos una comunidad fuerte que actúa a través de páginas como “comunidad de Santa Teresa” y "¿Qué hay en Santa" en Facebook.

En estas páginas se puede consultar con otros sobre todo tipo de cosas, como un episodio cotidiano de la vida, como tener una serpiente grande en su jardín, un animal herido o pedir un electricista, soldador o técnico en computación.

Mi sueño era vivir en una comunidad que cree en “dar para recibir” y aquí encontré mucha gente que vive de acuerdo a esto.

Conocí a Casa Pampa cuando buscaba un lugar para hacer un centro de reciclaje.

Son una enciclopedia andante para la Permacultura y todos los aspectos de vivir en armonía con la naturaleza.

El Jardín Comunitario de Santa Teresa es un gran proyecto para la escuela local, como hacer abono y cultivar una variedad de hierbas, frutas y verduras, mientras se enseña a los niños sobre los temas.

Una mañana fui a cosechar la Cúrcuma del jardín. Fue una mañana divertida, conocer gente estupenda, hablar sobre la vida y poner las manos en el suelo para buscar cúrcuma.

Espero que mucha gente continúe siendo voluntaria en los proyectos de Casa Pampa.

Doors to Permaculture

Life allowed me to get to know the town of Santa Teresa more intimately and in my search to build my personal garden, the contact from Casa Pampa came to me.

This organization is in charge of the community garden of the public school in the area where it allows children who attend class to have a connection with nature through experience.

Casa Pampa also receives volunteers from different parts of the world, so that those who come to visit the town can get their hands on the ground and take the experience personally.

In the last four weeks I have learned how to prepare good soil for planting, care, permanent and seasonal characteristics, composting techniques, and much more; We have also visited the different orchards in the area and that allowed us to see the different techniques that are carried out.

This beautiful experience opened the doors to the world of Permaculture where the companies have merged perfectly between a rich mate, wisdom, and hands in our mother earth; I am very fortunate to be able to share a little of the good times that have lived here and I hope you can live your own experience.

Las puertas de la Permacultura

La vida me permitió conocer más íntimamente el pueblo de Santa Teresa y en la búsqueda de armar mi huerta personal me llega el contacto de Casa Pampa.

Esta organización está a cargo de la huerta comunitaria del colegio público de la zona donde permite que los niños que asisten a clase, tengan al alcance la conexión con la naturaleza a través de la experiencia.

Casa Pampa también recibe voluntarios de distintas partes del mundo, para que los que vengan a visitar el pueblo puedan meter manos en la tierra y llevarse la experiencia personalmente,.

Las últimas cuatro semanas he aprendido cómo preparar un buen suelo para sembrar, los cuidados, las características permanentes y estacionales, técnicas de compostaje y mucho más; Además hemos visitado las distintas huertas de la zona y eso permitió ver las diferentes técnicas que se llevan a cabo. 

Esta linda experiencia me abrió las puertas al mundo de la Permacultura donde los compartires se han fusionado perfectamente entre un rico mate, sabiduría y manos en nuestra madre tierra; Soy muy afortunada de poder compartir un poquito de los buenos momentos que se viven por aquí y espero que puedan vivir su experiencia propia.

I am grateful to life and Casa Pampa for letting me be part of all the wonderful projects that are organized and concretized every day with the work and effort of each member.

My name is Marina, I am a traveler from the interior of the province of Buenos Aires, Chacabuco, who 4 years ago decided to explore and discover new places in our beautiful world. That was how I arrived in Costa Rica, Santa Teresa and I was lucky to be part of Casa Pampa.

I approached in order to grow and learn how to help those who give up part of their time every day for this common cause of living in a better and greener world. Not only did I fulfill my goal but I also take with me the coolest learning, the simplest actions and above all the desire to continue taking care of our planet and infecting so many to join in helping.

The days in the garden, the events, the cleaning of beaches and each meeting joining forces so that together we can be stronger and stronger. It is now the change, it is now the time ... It is the day today, we cannot wait any longer !!! 

We are the change so that we can continue to enjoy a better and cleaner world. As in the garden, I chose to continue sowing seeds so that in each harvest we are more and better. For many more achievements !!!

Estoy agradecida a la vida y a Casa Pampa por dejarme ser parte de todos los proyectos maravillosos que día a día se van organizando y concretando con el trabajo y esfuerzo de cada integrante. 

Mi nombre es Marina, soy una viajera del interior de la provincia de Buenos Aires, Chacabuco, que hace ya 4 años decidió explorar y conocer nuevos lugares de nuestro hermoso mundo. Fue así como llegué a Costa Rica, Santa Teresa y tuve la suerte de formar parte de Casa Pampa.

Me acerqué con el objetivo de crecer y aprender cómo así también ayudar a los que día a día entregan parte de su tiempo por esta causa común de vivir en mundo mejor y más verde. No solo cumplí mi objetivo sino que además me llevo conmigo el aprendizaje más lindo, las acciones más simples y sobre todo las ganas de seguir cuidando nuestro planeta y contagiar a tantos a que se sumen a ayudar.

Los días en la huerta, los eventos, las limpiezas de playas y cada encuentro uniendo fuerzas para que en conjunto podamos ser más y más fuertes. Es ahora el cambio, es ahora el momento... Es hoy el día, no podemos esperar más!!!

Somos nosotros el cambio para que podamos seguir disfrutando de un mundo mejor y más limpio. Así como en la huerta, elegí seguir sembrando semillas para que en cada cosecha seamos más y mejores.

¡CELEBREMOS ESTE LOGRO Y CONOZCAMOS UN POCO MÁS DE ESTA GRAN INICIATIVA!

La FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) es la agencia de las Naciones Unidas que
lidera el esfuerzo internacional para poner fin al hambre. Su objetivo es lograr la
seguridad alimentaria para todos, y al mismo tiempo garantizar el acceso regular a
alimentos suficientes y de buena calidad para llevar una vida activa y sana.

Con más de 194 Estados miembros, la FAO trabaja en más de 130 países y consolida el
proyecto “SAVE FOOD” con el objetivo de reducir la pérdida de alimentos y promover un
diálogo esperanzador entre la industria, la investigación, la política y la sociedad civil
sobre este tema. Con el plan de SAVE FOOD la FAO busca aumentar la sensibilización
pública sobre el impacto del desperdicio de alimentos, y desarrolla una plataforma para
intercambiar experiencias y construir un centro global de excelencia basado en el trabajo
y las prácticas de los profesionales que se concentran en la reducción de pérdidas
alimentarias.

En la primera presentación de la iniciativa “SAVE FOOD” en 2011, Werner M.
Dornscheidt (Presidente y Director Ejecutivo de Messe Düsseldorf GmbH) explicó:
"Nuestro objetivo es que se tiren menos alimentos en los países industrializados y que
los consumidores de estos países planifiquen sus compras con atención. Pero, todavía
más importante, queremos aumentar la sensibilización a nivel industrial sobre las
pérdidas de alimentos, un tema prioritario para el futuro."

Casa Pampa, conociendo la misión y objetivos de SAVE FOOD, se compromete y une a
la red de miembros a nivel mundial para ser más eficientes en nuestra lucha contra las
pérdidas de alimentos en todo el mundo. Es para Casa Pampa un honor poder compartir
estos pilares y trabajar con nuestro proyecto “WASTE FOR FOOD”, en la península de
Nicoya, Costa Rica, que concuerda con la visión e ideología de “SAVE FOOD”.
El proyecto local “Waste for Food” comenzó en 2014 como un proyecto personal de Casa
Pampa para ayudar a desarrollar la comunidad de Santa Teresa. Inicialmente, el
proyecto recolectaría desechos orgánicos de varios mercados y restaurantes cercanos
para el compostaje. El proyecto creció y nació el programa de voluntariado de Casa
Pampa. Después de una cuidadosa consideración, vimos el impacto positivo que este
proyecto podría tener en toda la comunidad y decidimos tomar medidas. Esto nos
permitió tomar la decisión de enfocarnos en difundir y llevar nuestro mensaje al gobierno
y a otros funcionarios. Actualmente, estamos trabajando en conjunto con grupos clave
como la Cámara de Turismo de Malpais-Santa Teresa, la Asociación Probienstar, así
como las ONG ambientales locales.

Como defensores y simpatizantes a los proyectos y planes de desarrollo ambiental,
basados en el concepto de asociación y colaboración, Casa Pampa reconoce que la
cooperación y esfuerzo de todos los miembros del proyecto, voluntarios y organizaciones
importantes es más que necesaria. Con la labor del emprendimiento social sostenible
en la comunidad de Santa Teresa, Casa Pampa se compromete a participar y ser
productores de un cambio ambiental para todos. Trabajamos como colaboradores para
el desarrollo de comunidades y sociedades consientes de la problemática de los
desechos y desperdicios de comida, compartiremos junto a “SAVE FOOD” nuestras

- Casa Pampa joins the global network of leading members to eradicate food waste through "SAVE FOOD" of FAO –

CELEBRATE THIS ACHIEVEMENT WITH US AND LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS GREAT INITIATIVE!

FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) is the United Nations agency that leads the
international effort to end hunger. Its objective is to achieve food security for all, and at
the same time guarantee regular access to sufficient and good quality food to lead an
active and healthy life.

With more than 194-member states, FAO works around 130 countries and consolidates
the "SAVE FOOD" project with the objective of reducing the loss of food and promoting a
hopeful dialogue between industry, research, politics and civil society about these
important topics. The "SAVE FOOD" plan from FAO seeks to increase public
awareness of the impact of food waste, and develop a platform to exchange experiences
and build a global center of excellence based on the work and practices of professionals
who focus on the reduction of wasted food.

In the first presentation of the "SAVE FOOD" initiative in 2011, Werner M. Dornscheidt
(President and CEO of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH) explained: "Our goal is that less food be
thrown away in industrialized countries and that consumers in these countries plan their
purchases carefully, but, even more importantly, we want to raise industrial awareness
of food losses, a priority issue for the future. "
Casa Pampa, studying the mission and objectives of SAVE FOOD, commits and joins the
network of members worldwide to be more efficient in our fight against food losses
throughout the world. Casa Pampa, now is honored to share these pillars and work with

our project "WASTE FOR FOOD", in the Nicoya peninsula, Costa Rica, which share the
vision and ideology of "SAVE FOOD".
Our local "Waste for Food" plan began in 2014 as a personal project to help develop the
Santa Teresa community. Initially, the project would collect organic waste from several
markets and nearby restaurants for composting. The project grew, and the Pampa Casa
Volunteer Program was born. After a structured analysis, we saw the positive impact that
this project could have on the entire community and decided to act. This gave us the
chance to focus on spreading and taking our message to the government and other
officials. Currently, we are working together with key groups such as the Malpais-Santa
Teresa Chamber of Tourism, the Probienstar Association, as well as local environmental
NGOs.
As supporters of projects and ecological development plans, based on the concept of
partnership and collaboration, Casa Pampa recognizes that the cooperation and effort
of all the coordinators, volunteers and important organizations is more than necessary.
With the work of sustainable social entrepreneurship in the community of Santa Teresa,
Casa Pampa, is committed to participate and be producers of an ecofriendly change for
all. We work as collaborators for the development of communities and societies aware
of the problem of waste and food waste, we will share with the SAVE FOOD project our
experiences and working methods to achieve greater progress for all.

Volunteer Experience: Rodrigo from Brazil

Hi, my name is Rodrigo and I am from Brazil!

I am 25 years old and have been working with IT and Web Developing for around 6 years now, I have experience on game and web development.

The programming world is already challenging by itself and has so much to offer, but I reached a moment in my life that i needed something more, something for myself. I had a lot of ideas about travelling but nothing was like water clear in my mind, it’s pretty hard to take a decision like that when you were a first time traveler like me. After some research in the web and some friends advice I applied to a few places and got an answer from Casa Pampa.

I got a pretty fast response in the social media, and from there the care and attention just increased, it was really amazing the time it was put for answering my questions. Each time we talked I just felt more secure of the decision and to take the next step which was to finally travel.

Being a part of the Project has been pretty cool, I have worked with kids in the school and saw what they do by themselves to help the community which was really amazing, learned a bunch about permaculture and I still feel that it I can learn so much more, and for me to be able to bring my web development and projects experience to use in Casa Pampa has been a great opportunity and seeing it grow had a huge impact on a lot of things i was used to before sharing this much time with people involved on it.

After almost 5 months working with the project and experiencing the permaculture lifestyle, I can say that I have changed a lot of things about myself, each person that I worked with or either met in this city had a different the way I see certain things, but overall I had the time of my life and the positive energy I received from Casa Pampa made everything turn out as smooth and relaxing as it could be.
